California’s Autonomous EV Mandate

This bill requires, beginning January 1, 2030, an autonomous vehicle operating on a public road in California to be a zero-emission vehicle. It was signed into law in September 2021. By confronting this emerging industry early, California helps assure a fossil-powered autonomous vehicle industry never becomes entrenched in the first place.
