Proposed Clean Renewable Energy and Economic Development Act of 2009

The proposed Clean Renewable Energy and Economic Development Act of 2009 would have allowed DOE to designate “national renewable energy zones,” based on locations that are capable of generating more than 1000 megawatts of renewable energy. This approach retains the primary role of states in siting transmission lines, while expanding FERC’s backstop authority in such areas.
