Massachusetts Requirements to Purchase Hybrid or Alternative Fuel Vehicles

Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 7, Section 9A requires that the state purchase hybrid or alternative fuel vehicles to the maximum extent feasible, at a rate of not less than 5 per cent annually for all new motor vehicle purchases, so that not less than 50 per cent of the state’s motor vehicles be hybrid or alternative fuel vehicles by the year 2018.
