Los Angeles’ zoning ordinances

Los Angeles’ zoning ordinances (2017) recently changed to disincentivize the spread of large single residences, or “McMansions.” The 2017 revisions gave a floor area ratio disincentive for ceilings higher than 14 feet, and coordinated zones to restrict building mass to certain areas of the lot. Taken together, these revisions limit the spread of high-energy demand residential construction.
