Illinois Law restricting county-level siting restrictions over windpower
In May 2022, Illinois adopted siting legislation for commercial wind facilities that prevents counties from placing restrictions on the installation or use of a commercial wind energy facility, or from establishing siting standards for supporting facilities that preclude development of commercial wind energy facilities. The statute provides hearing requirements and time limits for counties to promulgate their siting decisions. The statute also specifies setback requirements, blade tip height limitations, and sound limitations.
