EEDI Guidelines

Energy Efficiency Design Index requirements were made mandatory for new ships under MARPOL Annex VI, ch. 4. New ship design needs to meet the reference level, which will be tightened incrementally every five years. The EEDI is expected to stimulate continued innovation and technical development of all the components influencing the fuel efficiency of a ship from its design phase.
