ACEEE Report, How Utility Energy Efficiency Programs Can Use New Federal Funding
The federal Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) together provide approximately $50 billion for energy efficiency implementation. The programs funded by these laws can help states and utilities meet their energy efficiency and other climate-related goals, providing an opportunity to take energy efficiency efforts to a higher level. This funding can be used to substantially augment existing program budgets and/or to undertake creative new efforts. This policy paper from ACEEE discusses a variety of opportunities and options for integrating utility and state programs with the federal programs and tax credits.
