UC Berkeley’s 2016 report, Soil Health and Carbon Sequestration in US Croplands: A Policy Analysis, estimates that while agricultural soils currently only sequester 8.4 million metric tones of CO2-e per year, they have the capacity to sequester up to 100 million tons.
