New York City’s Climate Mobilization Act (2019)

New York City’s Climate Mobilization Act is an umbrella term for a set of laws, including Local Laws 92 and 94 (established through Int. 0276 and Int. 1032), which require certain existing building roofs must be covered in green roofs or PV, including certain new construction; and Local Law 97 (established through Int. 1253), setting annual carbon emissions limits for buildings larger than 25,000 square feet. The law’s GHG intensity limits, expressed in CO2 equivalent per square foot for 10 building categories, will tend to drive electrification efforts.

Pursuant to Local Law 97, in 2019 NYC announced 9 building that will be undergoing deep energy retrofits (See DeBlasio announcement).
