Healthy Forests Restoration Act and Applications
The Healthy Forests Restoration Act outlines the federal government’s policy guiding wildfire management on federal forests. Under the HFRA’s Hazardous Fuel Reduction on Federal Lands provisions (16 USC §6511-6518), the US Forest Service could use the HFRA to remove dead trees from forests, thereby reducing forest fuels that exacerbate wildfires, while displacing fossil fuel generation.
