EIA carbon tax modeling
The Energy Information Administration, in its Annual Energy Outlook 2014 report, modeled a carbon price of $25 per metric ton, increasing 5% per year. The model showed a very small change in retail energy prices, but an 85% drop in coal generation and a 56% increase in renewable energy generation by 2030. Taking electricity and transportation together, the EIA analysis found a 28% emissions drop from 2012 to 2030.
