Consumer’s Energy Offset Proposal for Natural Gas Customers

On October 19, 2021, Consumers Energy petitioned the Michigan Public Service Commission for approval of a voluntary carbon offset program. The Program will be marketed as a voluntary program to natural gas customers which allows customers to offset a portion, or all, of their carbon emissions from natural gas use through carbon offsets procured or developed on the customers’ behalf.  To ensure high-quality offsets are offered, the Company is focusing on purchasing offsets that are verified to meet the standards of one of the following entities: Gold Standard, Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard, Climate Action Reserve, or American Carbon Registry.
