California New Gas Heater Ban

In September 2022, the California Air Resources Board voted to ban the sale of new natural gas furnaces and heaters by 2030. Homes will be required to install zero-emissions alternatives, like electric heaters. The requirement applies to new construction and also the replacement of gas furnaces and heaters in existing buildings.

The ban was voted on pursuant to a revision of the State Implementation Plan in accordance with requirements under the federal Clean Air Act, drafted in August. See the attached State Implementation Plan, at page 101, where the ban is discussed. Further drafting of the final regulation must be
