Boston’s Residential Composting Program
In May 2022, Boston opened a curbside food waste collection program with rolling online enrollment. Food waste, collected with residents’ scheduled trash and recycling, will be sent to a private composting site before being made available as compost for city parks, gardens, and schools, as well as to a local waste-to-energy facility. Service begins August 1, 2022. In July, compost bin “starter kits” will be delivered to residents who have enrolled in the program.
